Meet The Untamed Doodler
I got fired for doodling at work.
Some people bite their nails, pull their hair, have some “tell” that unconsciously soothes them. I doodle. Intricate, sprawling art forms that take over reams of paper.
I’ve always been an artist. Schooled in many media, fine art to graphic design, I attended the Chicago Art Institute and choose advertising art director as my first career. I was persistent and privileged to gain entry at some of the world’s largest and most prestigious ad agencies. It was a wonderful couple of decades winning awards and relishing the freedom of the 70’s and 80’s.
With the eventual burnout, I turned to another passion: Baking. I opened a specialty bakery with $3,000 and great naiveté. But it worked! I did all my own package design and marketing, and sold around the country as "Anna, Ida & Me." What another glorious 20 years. I eventually sold it and dibbled and dabbled for the next several years trying to find to define my next passion..
I was a fitness freak and former bodybuilder, so how natural to study to become a personal trainer. My unique niche was, being older than most every trainer in the world, specializing in training the older population. I knew their pain. I could relate. They loved it. I loved it. Their successes were my rewards.
Life happened, and I moved to Colorado. I became a stoner and started working in marijuana dispensaries. Actually, I was really green and inexperienced, but took to my training and testing vigorously. Another great gig for the next 8 years, helping people, till the fateful day when I was caught doodling while working the front desk, a grave no-no.
Devastated, and depressed, I turned to my doodles. Adding color and emotion, the doodles were morphing into works of art that were joyful and fun . My style, expertise, design, and daring evolved. I created stories, and added gemstones.. My old creative spark came back. I know these doodles saved my sanity during a rough year.
Voila! The Untamed Doodler. My first art show under my belt, it's been excellent karma to return to my first love after all this time. I am happy to share my journey with you, and hope my art brings you the joy and pleasure it does me.
How I Create An Untamed Doodle
Here is how "Juicy" was born, with all my Untamed Doodles starting the same way. Where they go from the first few strokes is anybody's guess.
• I challenge myself to start with 4 lines
• I let them morph
• Full outline
• I lay down the black
• First color sets the mood
• Add some conflict
• Make the colors work together, before adding extra detail.
