The Sugar Skull Collection
I never appreciated the creativity, color, and joy of sugar skulls until I was commissioned to create one. Then I got hooked.
The tradition goes back over 3,000 years, commemorating family members who'd passed on. It wasn't till the 1800s, when the Caribbean was awash in sugar cane, that skulls made of pressed sugar took the place of bone skulls.
Normally, they're decorated with colorful icing, foil, ribbon, feathers, gems and more. But untamed skulls take the tradition a step beyond: they're made of almost pure fantasy and they positively drip with bling. Want to wrap your head around a different kind of sugar skull? Take a look. If you dare.
